population. we have been involved with the hundred days campaign to house veterans in 2012. president obama established a goal to end veteran's homelessness by 2015 which i think is doable and the department of housing and urban development came together to establish the hud slash veterans housing program which, is models after section eight and san francisco has received 500 of the vouchers to date. we have learned that our chronically homeless veterans were having a difficult time finding apartments in the private marked in fact many veterans have had vouchers issued in 1212 and so what we have here is a situation where we have a federal agency, the mayor's office and housing authority and human services agency who have focused to encourage private landlords to provide housing for these veteran and is a few months ago one of those landlords the owner of 2524 mission street came forward to offer to least his 33 stew apartments which are above the restaurant on joule which, is now the -- restaurant to least those apartments to veterans who have those vouchers and i think for those of

with chuck hagel. the two of them traveled to both iraq and afghanistan together when president obama was then senator obama at the time. we got sort of tipped off to some of the talking points that you will likely hear parroted over the next couple weeks from the white house when it comes to chuck hagel. they refer to him as a straight shooter. they say he understands the world stage. also really focus on the fact that he is a combat veteran. recognize the significance of that, thomas. if he is to be nominated as he will be just about an hour and a half from now and then confirmed, he would become the first grunt, as it were, the first enlisted soldier and vietnam veteran, purple heart war hero, decorated from his time in service, to go on to be the secretary of defense. the way the white house sort of views this right now is two-fold. one, they see him despite the criticisms as a man who wore the uniform who can stand up to those generals in the pentagon. of course, the president did not serve in the military. and then with all these bruising battles in terms of the fiscal issues, t

thought from barack obama would be may have like bill clinton. once he lost big in the first off election year, 2010, he would come to the center. he didn't do that. and so now you see our house conference. i was just there yesterday. they are more focused than ever to engage in this fight, whether it's going to be during the debt limit debate that will come in two months or we have a c. o. debate, which the government is only funded through the end of march this year. so to fund the government for the rest of the year we will have another opportunity for a spending fight. but you have people that are now ready to engage in a way like never before to make sure we reform spending and save the country. >> we mentioned one of the things you did sponsor was a piece of legislation that says you will freeze the pay for members of congress. a lot of people would say bravo. if you don't reduce the deficit, maybe there ought to be a reduction in pay. everyone knew in washington you had this deadline and nobody seemed to get serious about it until about midnight on put 1st of december. >>
